Mom & kids escape wreck

UPDATE 3:20 P.M.

RCMP say the 33-year-old mother suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Kelowna General Hospital for observation.

As previously reported her young children sustained no injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but RCMP say the woman may have experienced a medical issue while driving.

She was travelling east bound on Hwy. 33 just before 1 p.m. when her vehicle left the road right, hit a Fortis line, flipped over once and came to a stop via a power pole.

ORIGINAL - A mom and two young children were rescued after a crash Friday afternoon.

According to an RCMP officer on the scene the mother was driving along Hwy. 33, just before 1 p.m., when she lost control of the car, it then flipped onto the sidewalk and came to rest against a light pole.

The crash initially trapped the mother inside the wreck. First responders were eventually able to get her out of the vehicle.

The children were helped out of the car by a passerby before crews arrived.

The Kelowna mom was taken away on stretcher while her two young children, a boy and girl ages 4 and 5, sustained minor injuries.

There was no indication that other vehicles were involved or what may have caused the car to lose control.

Police have ruled out drugs, alcohol and texting, as the mother's cellphone was in her purse.
