Man escapes house fire

A house in the Black Mountain area sustained heavy smoke and water damage after a fire broke out in the basement, Wednesday night.

The call came in around 10 p.m., a witness says they saw flames on the roof. When crews arrived they noticed smoke billowing from the lower part of the home, but did not see visible flame. The fire was quickly extinguished.

One man was home at the time of the fire, he was able to escape with undetermined injuries. He was tended to by BC Ambulance.

The fire occurred at 1707 Autumn Road; three fire trucks, a rescue unit and a command vehicle, as well as BC Ambulance and RCMP responded.

Autumn Road was blocked off while emergency crews were on location.

Emergency Social Services were deployed to the scene.

The fire is under investigation.
