Deceased identified

UPDATE 3:45 P.M.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male who was found deceased in Kelowna Wednesday.

He is Melvin Davis Maygard, 56, of West Kelowna.

On Sept. 3, 2014, a passersby found Mr. Maygard on the ground on the banks of Mill Creek near the intersection of Enterprise Way and Commerce Avenue in Kelowna. He was deceased at the scene, and is believed to have died in the early morning hours of the same day.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death. Foul play has been ruled out.


On September 3. Kelowna RCMP were called to the area of Enterprise Way and Commerce Avenue for a report of a body found on a river bank.  The death is not deemed suspicious at this time.  Kelowna RCMP is currently working with the BC Coroners Service on this investigation.

RCMP are investigating after a body was reported on a trail near Enterprise Way and Commerce Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

A K9 unit has been called in and the area is cordoned off.

The deceased male was discovered by two women at around 2 p.m., in the wooded area that runs beside Enterprise Way.

One of the women, who found the man, spoke to Castanet. She says they were out geocaching on the trail when they made the gruesome discovery. The woman says the man was lying near the creek with his head on a rock, he was unresponsive so they called 911.

The woman says it was fairly steep and there were a couple of empty beer cans near the body.
