Thieves toss taco truck

A popular Okanagan food truck is temporarily out of business after thieves broke in and stole all of their food and supplies.

Ian Locket of Surf Side California Taco says the truck was parked near Dilworth Drive and Leckie Place, when it was rifled through late last week. He noticed the damage Thursday while stopping to pick up some supplies for a weekend event.

“They got in through the back, you can see it’s been pried open,” he says.

“They took one of our big garbage cans… we’re thinking they loaded it up with all our supplies to haul it away.”

Locket estimates they are out about $600 worth of supplies and the damage to the truck is believed to be another $500.

“It would have happened between Monday and Wednesday nights,” says Locket, who adds the truck was hidden off the main road between businesses.

“It’s unfortunate. We were supposed to be up and working and then find out we have nothing.

Locket says aside from the stolen food, the thieves also stole tools, cleaning supplies and even a first-aid kit.

He anticipates being back in business as soon as possible, and suggests people be on the lookout for a bright green garbage can.
