RDCO Diesel Spill Update

RCMP are now investigating the suspicious 1,000 litre diesel spill at the Regional District of Central Okanagan office this morning.

RDCO Purchasing and Fleet Manager Andy Brennan says a remediation company has now removed the diesel.

"They've just finished with the vacuum truck so most of the material is off-site. We just need to have some landscaping work done next week because we've got oil on the roots of some of the shrubs," Brennan says.

He adds damage did not extend beyond the RDCO property. "There was no leakage into the storm drains. It was all contained on-site."

The matter won't end when the clean-up is done though.

"(The incident) is currently with the RCMP. We have had a couple of leads. There was some reports from neighbouring properties of people on our grounds overnight. The RCMP have been here and there is a file open."

The spill was not an accident.  According to an RDCO employee on scene someone stuck a hose in the tank overnight and the tank filled with water, causing it to overflow.
