1000 litre diesel spill

Crews managed to avert a potential environmental disaster after an estimated 1,000 litres of diesel fuel spilled at the Regional District of Central Okanagan office on KLO Road.

Officials at the scene have contained the spill and believe the fuel breached just the main parking lot and a maintenance garage.

Storm drains on the property have been covered.

The spill occurred about 9 a.m. Friday morning after a reserve tank for old diesel fuel overflowed, spilling its contents.

According to an RDCO employee on scene someone stuck a hose in the tank overnight and the tank filled with water causing it to overflow.

He indicated about 1,000 litres of diesel fuel spilled as a result.

The official says he believes the deed was done by someone who knew what they were doing and not someone pulling a prank.
