Rain or shine the first annual ‘Farm Fest’ will giddy-up at the Arion Therapeutic Farm.
This is the first summer event for the non-profit which holds a ‘Winter Wonderland’ festival each year.
This August the farm wished to entice visitors, as well as local families, to an event for all ages.
Founder-Director Heather Henderson, says Arion Therapeutic Farm is a relatively new non-profit, but as there are many charities that need donations and attention in the valley, the last thing anyone needed was competition.
Instead Henderson invited other nearby charities in the area to attend the ‘Farm Fest’, to allow for locals and travels to experience a little more of what the Okanagan has to offer as well as see the site of Arion.
“This being the first year we kind of approached the small guy, hoping that the smaller new charities would benefit from the exposure,” she explains.
“So we have a great group of seven or eight different charities that are going to be competing for a $1000 cash prize kindly donated by Wards hard apple cider.”
Charities such as the Canadian Mental Health Association, Outdoor Adventures and the 4-H Club, who will go head to head in a chill competition, with supplies donated by the Mission Save On Foods.
“We are also featuring a wine tasting and SteamWorks brewery will be there too as well as Meadow Vista Honey Wine,” says Henderson.
The event is free, but each event such as pony rides, the hay maze and the petting zone will be ticketed.
“We have had good feedback so far, Tourism Kelowna has embraced the event quite nicely as well as our local supporters, but more than anything we have 50 plus volunteers to help pull the event off.”
Henderson goes on to say, the event will also be wonderful way to showcase the new indoor arena that was erected last year, thanks to a donations in excess of $100,000.
There will be a bar dance in the evening with music by World Famous Fiddlers, and Henderson says it will be very much in theme with the Ho-down experience.
Farm Fest starts at 3 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. Friday Aug, 22 at Arion Therapeutic Farm located at 2457 Saucier Rd.
