Legal action has commenced between Krafty Kitchen and former reality chef Kaila Klassen.
A notice of claim was filed late last week against the MasterChef Canada contestant alleging Klassen removed company funds for personal use to the tune of $29,542.88 – however the restaurant is only looking to retrieve $25,000.
According to the claim the funds were removed through debit transactions, e-Transfers, direct transfers and ATM withdrawals.
Krafty Kitchen also alleges it incurred additional legal and accounting expenses when the corporation removed Klassen from the restaurant, and during the time it took to audit the missing funds.
Klassen herself has refused to comment on the situation and directed all questions to her lawyer Wesley Forgione.
In an email response to Castanet, Forgione would only say that Klassen denies the above allegations and that the matter will be dealt with in court.
It was shortly after being voted off MasterChef that Klassen announced she would be opening a restaurant in Kelowna.
At the time, she told Castanet News that Krafty Kitchen and Bar would feature small shareable plates, and while she wouldn’t be in the kitchen, Klassen would be concentrating on ownership and menu planning.
“I think that I’m going to put my whole heart and soul into it. I’m very confident with the food and I’m confident with the community support and I know we will be a success,” Klassen said in April.
None of the allegations against Klassen have been proven in court.
