Vehicle fire ignites grass

UPDATE 10:45 A.M.

The Kelowna Fire Department made quick work of a grass fire on Lakeshore Road just before Cedar Creek Estate Winery.

According to Platoon Captain, Steve Wallick, the fire started as a result of a single vehicle accident.

Everyone in the vehicle escaped the wreckage uninjured.

"Fire from the vehicle spread up the hillside into dry grass and shrubs," says Wallick.

"It was about 120 feet by 140 feet."

Wallick says crews focussed on the grass fire first before working their way down to the vehicle.

"This could have been much worse."

The fire was reported shortly before 9 p.m.

A vehicle fire near 5680 Lakeshore quickly spread to the nearby grass. The car fire was started after an accident, there are no reports of any injuries.

Kelowna fire dispatched four engines to the scene; the fire grew to 15 metres by 15 metres before it was under control.

The blaze was reported at around 8:55 p.m., by 9:25 the crew was in mop-up stage.

At it's peak, the fire could be seen from across Okanagan Lake in West Kelowna, it was located just past Bertram Creek Park.
