SD23 ratifies new contract

School District 23 has ratified a new five year contract with its support staff.

The deal, affecting 1,367 support workers, members of CUPE Local 3523, provides a 5.5 per cent wage increase over the life of the contract which runs from July 1 of this year through June 30, 2019.

There are provisions for additional increases if the BC economy exceeds the annual forecasts set by the Economic Forecast Council during the last four years of the agreement.

The contract was reached under the government's 2014 Economic Stability Mandate.

It was ratified by the union back in June.

Within 30 days of ratification by the board of education, the local union and BCPSEA, the board will reimburse each employee for all scheduled hours the employee has not otherwise been paid during the BCTF strike.
