Rolf von Andrian has been putting the final touches on his Myra Canyon Adventure Park for weeks.
He has been anticipating his official opening this coming Saturday until a chainsaw wielding vandal, or vandals, made sure that opening would not happen.
They cut about halfway through three of the trees in the Adventure Park - not enough to topple them, but enough to render them unsafe.
He says one of his sons noticed the damage Monday. He figures the damage was done within the last week.
"The bad part of it is all three are core trees in our course and a damaged tree means we will have to rebuild the complete course because we will have to take all the wires down, replace the tree with a pole if it is possible in the same place and then reconnect it again," says von Andrian.
"This is the worst thing you want to have happen a week before you open for the season, which is a short one. It hurts, definitely very, very much."
He figures the vandalism has cost him between $60,000 and $100,000 in revenues with another $20,000 or more to repair the damage.
He does hope to finally have his park open sometime in early August.
RCMP have been notified and a police file has been opened.
von Andrian says he doesn't know who would take a chainsaw to his burgeoning business.
In fact, among neighbours, von Andrian says the business was very welcome.
