Hospital gas leak shut-off
3:40 p.m. update: All roads are now open and cleared except for some construction near Pandosy and Royal.
12:35 update: The gas leak at the hospital has been stopped by FortisBC. RCMP say there may be more work required on the line so traffic on Pandosy will be limited around the hospital until the all clear is given.
All access points to the hospital have been restored.
12:05 p.m. update: Crews are using a backhoe to dig up more of the line to stop the leak. They are estimating the leak should be shut by 12:30 p.m. .
A spokesperson for Interior Health says crews working on the new parking lot hit a main gas line that is two inches in diameter.
Gas can be heard escaping from the pipe and there is a strong gas smell in the area.
A broken gas line has forced emergency officials to close Pandosy from Cadder Ave. to Rose Ave.
The hospital and the emergency room remain open. The only access to the hospital is off of Strathcona Avenue.
There are no reports of any injuries.
There are no evacuations being ordered at the present time.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
More details to follow.
