Tree branch falls on woman
She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
A woman was taken to hospital with arm injuries after a branch fell from a tree at Kinsmen Park and landed on top of her.
She had been sitting by the water with a group of friends from Pathways Abilities Society, an organization which helps those with developmental disabilities.
Darlene Hass with Pathways, says the woman, named Peggy, was sitting on a blanket under the tree when the incident happened.
“I heard a funny noise and looked up, and all of the sudden this branch starts coming down. I jumped out of the way so I didn’t get hit, but when I looked back Peggy was totally buried under the huge branch.”
Amazingly no one else was hurt, as two others were sitting next to Peggy in lawn chairs when more branches started to fall from the tree.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene to tape off the area surrounding the tree, and took Peggy to hospital for an arm x-ray.
City workers were brought in to remove the branches and assess the tree for further damage.
