SUV hits teen in Kelowna

A 15-year-old rollerblader was hit by an SUV at the corner of Leckie Road and Parkview Crescent Friday afternoon.

Just before 2 p.m. emergency crews responded to a report of a pedestrian hit. The young male was apparently trying to catch up to his friends and was not paying attention to traffic when he bladed in front of the silver BMW X5.

He was taken to hospital with some scrapes and bruises, but nothing serious.

The driver of the BMW had just watched the rest of the kids cross and was watching traffic when she said the teen "came out of nowhere."

"He's going to be all right but yes, I hit him, I couldn't stop. It feels terrible," she said.

Cst. Marion of the Kelowna RCMP said no charges would be laid and the incident was the blader's fault.

"It's typical - he didn't make sure all traffic had stopped and didn't watch for the lights and unfortunately he got the bad end of the deal, but he'll be alright," she said.
