Kelowna ready to party

Festivals Kelowna has put together what it feels is another great day for Canada's 147th birthday.

'Celebrate Canada Day - Kelowna' Tuesday July 1 promises to be a day of fun, family entertainment with activities for all tastes and ages.

The 17th annual 'Celebrate Canada Day - Kelowna will feature activities in Waterfront Park, Prospera Place and other locations through the city's Cultural District.

"Last year we thought we'd hit a pinnacle with this fun festival," says Festivals Kelowna Executive Director, Renata Mills.

"Now, I'm not so sure because we seem to have found even more great activities to include in this day of simply celebrating being Canadian.

Along with the traditional events, this year will include Stand Up Paddling demonstrations, a marching band from Edmonton and the perfect summer-time treat - watermelon.

Festivities also include the original Canada Day event, the '41st Annual Folkfest' from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Prospera Place and cutting of the Canada Day cake inside the arena at 12:30 p.m.

Waterfront Park activities go from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. including the Kids Zone with more than 25 different activities, five music stages, the 'Made In Canada Marketplace' and a 'Canada Day Bazaar.'

The annual fireworks show will be at Tugboat Bay at 10:30 p.m.
