Bank robbery

UPDATE: 1:30 P.M. - Kelowna RCMP have confirmed Monday's robbery at the CIBC branch on Bernard Avenue.

According to police a male suspect wearing black clothes approached a teller at about 2:30 p.m. and demanded cash. He obtained an undisclosed amount and fled.

Police say no weapon was used and no one was injured.
 
The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian male
  • 5 ft 8 to 5 ft 9 in ( 173-175 cm)
  • average build
  • wearing black top and black pants

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Kelowna RCMP, at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.


The CIBC, at the corner of Bernard Avenue and Water Street, was reportedly robbed Monday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 3 p.m., the RCMP quickly moved in and their helicopter was seen flying over the area.

We have no reports of any injuries or if a suspect was apprehended.

After the police left, the bank closed for the day. They left this message on their inner glass door:

'This CIBC Branch is temporarily closed due to unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
