Hidden cash craze in Kelowna

A Kelowna woman is bringing the hidden cash social media game to the Kelowna area.

Several months ago Alison Ruks was in a Starbucks drive-thru getting a coffee. As she went to pay, the cashier told her the previous customer had bought her drink.

Shocked by the generosity, Ruks went home without paying for the customer ahead of her. However, it soon began to bother her that she hadn't thought to buy for the next person.

"I’ve felt the need to pay it forward ever since,” she said.

Taking inspiration from the hidden cash social media craze that has recently hit cities like Vancouver, Ruks decided to bring the game to Kelowna.

"I'm not rich by any means, but I've been lucky the last couple of months and I've had a few dollars come my way," she said.

Every week for the next 10 weeks she plans on stashing $60 or more in various locations in the Kelowna area.

"I want people to actually be excited about it. Could I hide $20? Ya, I could, but I wanted to do at least $60 to make it more worthwhile."

Clues in the form of riddles and pictures will be posted to her Twitter and Instagram feeds starting June 28.

Ruks runs a lifestyle blog called TheRealMommy where she writes about "home, happy and health - everything mommy."
