Pedestrian hit downtown Kelowna

A pedestrian was struck while using the crosswalk in Kelowna Saturday afternoon.

Just before 3 p.m. emergency crews were called to the intersection of Bernard Avenue and Mill Street for a woman struck by a vehicle.

The driver of the Ford F350 owned by Kelowna Yamaha and Marine stayed on scene, was cooperative and very apologetic.

It appeared the woman was crossing the road when the truck took a left turn off of Bernard onto Mill and hit the woman with the driver's side mirror.

The impact was enough to close the folding mirror.

The victim appeared to be conscious as she was transported to hospital on a spine board. The extent of her injuries could not be confirmed, although nothing was immediately visible at the scene.

It occurred amidst the tear down and clean up of the Boat for Hope event which was wrapping up at 3 p.m.

Witnesses said they heard a thump and turned to see one woman on the ground and another standing over her.
