Builder hired for IH complex

Expansion of the Library Parkade is one of the projects associated with the new Interior Health Centre in downtown Kelowna.

The much talked about centre will be built in what is currently a parking lot on Doyle Avenue between St. Paul and Ellis Streets.

The health centre is slated to open in the summer of 2016.

It will consolidate a number of health services into one location.

Interior Health will not own the build, but will have input into the design that best suits the needs of Interior Health's clients and employees.

The City of Kelowna has partnered on the project by initially selling the land to Interior Health, and agreeing to construct parking to support the project.

The City will now get the Library Parkade expansion underway to help replace surface parking on the building site and to enhance weekend and evening parking in the area.

Construction will start later this fall and be finished in early 2016.

In addition, the new Ellis Street Parkade will be completed in conjunction with the opening of the Community Health and Services Centre.
