Mild response to World Cup

World Cup fever is attempting to make a dent in the collective minds of Kelowna residents, but there doesn’t appear to be much fanfare outside of the most rabid soccer fans.

A number of pubs around town will be carrying the games, but that may be only due to the Stanley Cup playoffs and NBA Finals wrapping up their schedules within the next week.

Some pubs will be carrying all of the games, and Tonics has announced itself as the (un)official place to be if you’re English and care about soccer. They will be playing all of the World Cup matches -- most with sound -- and is the only England House outside of the Lower Mainland.

The recently opened Rivals Sports Theatre and Grill will also be carrying all of the games and opening up at 9 a.m. for the early matches, according to their Facebook page. Giobean Coffee is gearing up and telling supporters to come down and cheer for their team; but it should be no surprise that Italy is the house favourite.

Other places like Rusty’s Steakhouse and Sports Lounge will also be showing the games, but others say they will not have sound or no games at all on the TV. Much of this depends on the clientele of any particular day, which also alludes to the fact that management of some locations are not expecting much interest.

Will your business be celebrating the world cup? Let us know and send in photos showing your World Cup excitement!
