Power outage explained
Nearly 1,000 homes in the Quail Ridge area of Kelowna lost their power Sunday after FortisBC experienced a component failure.
The outage affected 868 customers for a brief moment around 4:20 p.m.
Some of those customers immediately came back online, but 516 did not.
“It was just a connection failure,” says Michael Allison with FortisBC.
“From time to time, if a component wears out, in many cases if it causes a trip of the system, it will reclose like it did in this situation and customers won’t notice much of an interruption. However in this case, there were those customers that were out. So our crews located the site and just replaced the component.”
Power was restored to 320 customers by 6:20 p.m. and the remaining customers had their power restored before midnight.
