BBQ, music & a food drive

Thousands of empty bags were delivered to homes throughout the area this week with the hope residents would fill those bags with donations for the Kelowna Food Bank.

TELUS volunteers delivered 4,500 food donation bags to residents in Glenmore, Rutland, Lakeview Heights, Shannon Lake and West Kelowna Estates.

After receiving their bag, residents were asked to place it on their doorstep full of donations before 10:00 a.m. for pick this Saturday.

The donations will be collected and delivered right to the Kelowna Food Bank.

As a celebration of the event, Coronation Avenue will be closed at Ellis Street for a fun-filled, family block party with a barbeque, music and activity for kids.

Staff from Andre’s will be also onsite helping volunteers unload vehicles and cheering everybody on.

The Okanagan Mission Lions Club added to the spring buss of donations by delivered $1,500 in much needed tuna, soup, canned fruit and vegetables. The yearly donation helps restock shelves emptied through winter.

If you are interested in attending the food drive celebrations and/or brining donations head down to Coronation Avenue Saturday, May 31.

Deliveries begin at 11:00 a.m, MLA Norm Letnick will be grilling hot dogs at noon and the whole event will wrap up with the WestJet grand prize draw at 2:45 p.m.
