Cops for Kids - Jail & Bail

West Kelowna councilman Gord Milsom was arrested this week – but it was for a good cause.

The mock arrest was conducted by Superintendent Nick Romanchuk, who put the cuffs on him as they both gear up for the fourth annual Westbank Kinsmen Jail & Bail for Cops for Kids.

The event has raised $50,000 since its inception in 2011 and organizers hope for another large turnout.

“It’s about having fun. So whether they can raise the bail or not is not the most important thing,” says Scott Kehler, a Westbank Kinsman.

“The most important thing is that they get involved and give us their support and make a few calls, and every dollar counts.”

Friday’s fundraiser will have suspects arrested by off-duty cops and taken to ‘jail’ at Wholesale Sports in West Kelowna.

A judge will set their bail and that person will then need to fundraise over the telephone until they’ve met or exceeded their bail before being released.

Bail will be set by the judge, or can be suggested by whomever snitches out that person.

“Basically we have a snitch that will send us a summons to have an individual arrested,” explains Kehler.

“Sometimes they know they’re going to be arrested, sometimes they don’t, depending on what the snitch wants.”

If you want to snitch out one of your friends, please email [email protected] or call 250-317-7089 to arrange an arrest.
