Facelift for 17km of roads
The City of Kelowna's 2014 pavement management program is set to begin after the May long weekend.
In all, 17km of city roads (eight roads) will be resurfaced this year beginning with a section of Commonwealth Road.
The pavement management program prioritizes and determines how to upgrade and repair the roads surface based on various tests and software analysis that provides a numerical ranking for each road.
Short-term lane closures or detours will be in effect.
For the purpose of public safety and quality control, traffic control personnel will direct motorists and local residents to stay off the newly treated road segments until they have sufficiently cured.
The public's cooperation and patience will be appreciated.
City of Kelowna personnel have already begun preparing the selected road segments by cleaning, sweeping, sealing cracks, flushing and completing some minor shoulder repairs. Residents will be notified when resurfacing work is to begin in their area.
Approximately $2.5 million will be invested in road overlays this year with the work expected to be complete by October.
