Logging truck mayhem

An elderly Kelowna woman is lucky to be unhurt after she was rear-ended by a logging truck Thursday morning.

At 11:24 the Kelowna RCMP received a report of a hit and run on Highway 97, at the intersection with University Way.

An 81-year-old Kelowna woman was stopped at a red light in the outside northbound lane on the highway in her Mazda Protege when she heard tires squealing behind her. The woman let her foot off the brake just before she was struck from behind by a fully loaded logging truck, the impact pushing her through the intersection. The logging truck then continued northbound without stopping.

The suspect vehicle could only be described as a logging truck with a full load of timber and is likely to have some front-end damage.

The woman was checked by paramedics at the scene but fortunately appeared to have avoided injury.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP, Cst Chapman, at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
