Drowning man on life support

A family friend has told Castanet news that Shaun Stelkia is the man who was found unresponsive in Wood Lake Monday evening.

The 29-year-old man is believed to have suffered a heart attack and was found face down in the water around 7:15 p.m.

Witnesses pulled Stelkia from the water and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

The Lake Country Fire Department says it took approximately 20 minutes of resuscitation until they were able to locate a pulse.

He was then transferred by ambulance to Kelowna General Hospital.

An air Medevac helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but the decision was made to transfer by ground so more emergency personnel could continue treatment.

Stelkia is currently on life support at KGH.

He is from the South Okanagan.
