Fortis plans power outages

FortisBC has a few power outages planned in Kelowna over the next several days.

Outages will affect about 1,800 customers.

On Sunday, April 13, a planned power outage is scheduled for 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. It will affect approximately 600 customers from Richter street south to Coopland crescent and from Pandosy street east to Raymer avenue.

The outage is required while our crews work to provide electricity to a new building development.

On Tuesday, April 15, a planned power outage is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. It will affect approximately 1,220 customers in the South Crest, South Ridge, the Ponds and the Upper Mission communities.

Thirty-seven of these customers will be affected until 3 p.m.

This outage is required for equipment upgrades at the Bell substation, which for safety purposes, requires a planned outage.

Tips for planned power outages:

  • Protect your electronics, such as TVs, PVRs and computers, by using surge-protecting power bars.
  • Conserve cell phone batteries.
  • If you have an electric garage door opener, locate the manual release lever and learn how to operate it.

FortisBC apologizes for any inconvenience and will restore power as quickly as possible.
