Robbery in Glenmore

UPDATE 3:00 P.M. Wednesday:

It has been half a day since Great Clips hair salon was robbed in Glenmore and the suspect is still on the loose.

Store owner, Paul Baumback, says two of his female hair stylist were working alone Tuesday night at 8 p.m. when a man wearing a toque and bandana came in.

“A man came in and stole the cash register and our staff let him do it as they did not want to be injured or hurt,” said Baumback. “He did make some threats so they just backed away and let him take the till.”

He says he has never heard of a hair-salon being the target of a robbery but feels they may have been chosen because the salon is open until 9 p.m. on weekdays.

“I have never heard of a hair salon being robbed before,” said Baumback in disbelief. “My guess would be that they saw we were open later. You probably had someone looking for their next hit, an easy target.”

He adds that as a store owner you are aware a robbery is always a possibility but it is still a shock when it happens.

“You always hope you are protecting your staff and making sure they are in a safe environment so it is alarming when you have someone breaking in and holding up a store.”

Baumback says both women working at the time are doing well. One of the woman working the night before was back on shift today and he called her 'jovial.'

Great Clips did not have in-store cameras but Baumback says that is now going to change and they will be installing some.

RCMP are trying to get footage from cameras from neighbouring Coopers and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Baumback added that he was impressed with the police response.

“I thought it was wonderful they did a fantastic job. They were here immediately, they did containment around the area. By the time I got there the police had the whole area cordoned off, they had the tracking dogs out, I saw six police cars. I think it is fantastic.”

RCMP are still looking for the suspect who is described as a 5’10" Caucasian male, who was wearing a blue toque with a red bandana covering his face.

Police were conducting a late night search in Glenmore Tuesday evening, after a business on Kane Road was robbed.

Cpl. Bill Parmar of the Kelowna RCMP says a man entered the Great Clips location just after 8 p.m. and demanded money.

“The lone male grabbed the (cash register) and ran from the store," he said.

Officers quickly responded to the scene and set up a containment area. Witnesses told police they saw the man running towards Valley Road.

A police dog was brought in to track the suspect and was able to find some items of clothing left behind.

The suspect is described as a 5’10" caucasian male, and was wearing a blue toque with a red bandana covering his face.

As of 9:30 p.m. he was still at large and police were conducting a door-to-door search looking for more witnesses.
