Cyclist critical after crash

A 51-year-old Kelowna woman is in critical condition after being struck at an intersection Wednesday night.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a cyclist-involved collision at the intersection of Richter Street and KLO Road.

According to witnesses, a 51-year-old Kelowna woman was travelling southbound on Richter Street and entered the intersection on a red light where she was struck by an eastbound Nissan Cube.

The woman was not wearing the required safety helmet and she was found to be unconscious and in serious condition at the scene. She was rushed to hospital where she remains in critical condition with possible life threatening injuries.
No one else was injured in the crash.
An RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist was called to the scene to complete a detailed analysis of the crash.
Investigators found that the bicycle was not properly equipped with any front light or rear light and visibility is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid.
