Suspected arsonist burned in fire
A 40-year-old Kelowna man suspected of arson is in a Vancouver hospital with severe burns to his left leg.
Fire crews were called out to a bush fire at the KLO campus of Okanagan College around 1 a.m. Friday. RCMP patrolling the area, also attended the scene.
The fire did appear to be suspicious in nature.
While police were on the scene campus security located a man asleep in another area of the college ground.
Cst. Kris Clark says he was 'very intoxicated' and his left leg was smoking, having been badly burned.
The man was rushed to hospital and transferred to Vancouver for treatment the following day.
Clark says the man suffered severe burns on the lower part of his left leg.
The suspect is known to police.
Four pyramid ceders were damaged in the fire.
