A brazen daytime robbery at a downtown Kelowna jewelry story last week netted a thief a one-of-a-kind gold chain.
The robbery took place shortly after 2:30 last Thursday afternoon at Diamond Gallery on Bernard.
The thief came into the store a couple of times before swiping the large chain that had just been brought in for repair.
A matching bracelet was not taken.
"He knew what he wanted," says Anita Siemens who waited on the man when he came into the store the first time.
"He knew gram weight and the price he was willing to pay. It was a little low but reasonable."
She says the suspect left the store but returned about 45 minutes later.
Siemens went to the back of the store to look for a catalogue and, when store owner Gaby Szucs stood up to assist, the suspect grabbed the chain from the work bench and bolted from the store.
He fled eastbound on Bernard Avenue on foot.
As it turns out, Szucs and another goldsmith created the chain and matching bracelet about 12 years ago.
The missing chain contains about eight ounces of gold.
"We just want to get the chain back for our customer," says Szucs.
Kelowna RCMP confirmed the robbery took place and added they have identified a possible suspect.
