Family Day Princess and Superhero skate, in memory of Paige 2
The first annual Family Day Princess and Superhero skate, in memory of Paige was a huge success with hundreds hitting the ice.
Superheroes and Princesses joined kids dressed up to match them in a fundraising skate for pediatric cancer research.
Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Paige Darrell Ann Moench. She was happy, outgoing and a true little princess.
Sadly, cancer took Paige long before her time at only 22 months old.
Now in her memory, her family has created The Paige Foundation to bring awareness to the 'desperate and direct need for pediatric cancer research funding.'
Paige's mom, Natelle Moench, is the Director of The Paige Foundation and is looking forward to the first annual Family Day Princess and Superhero skate, in memory of Paige.
“Just before Paige died last August she really started to fall in love with the Disney princesses, plus she loved to watch skating and hockey so it sort of ties in all of her interests together from just before she died,” explained Moench.
The by-donation skating event is Monday Feb 10 (Family Day) at the Capital News Centre (CNC Rink #1) from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
“It is a fundraising event for our foundation and all proceeds are going exclusively to pediatric cancer research,” says Moench.
It is a theme skate and some famous faces will be in attendance.
“We have Cinderella, Snow White and Belle in attendance, as well as Superman, Spiderman, Green Lantern and Buzz Lightyear,” shared Moench.
Dressing up is encouraged but not required and Moench hopes to see the whole community hit the ice.
“It is an inclusive skate, so not only are families invited, we would also like to have older couples, single people etc.”
They will also be fundraising through their raffle prizes that were donated by local businesses.

There will also be free coffee and hot chocolate provided by the Starbucks on Lakeshore.
Skate rentals are available but helmet rentals are not, so Moench urges you to bring your own.
“They will not be renting helmets so it is really important kids bring their own helmets. We are going to have a helmet checker at the door because we really don’t want people on the ice without them.”
She is hoping to raise money for her cause but also bring awareness to the lack of funding available in pediatric cancer research.
“It is the number one cause of death in children by disease, yet it receives often under four per cent of overall cancer research funding,” adds Moench.
The first 100 people to arrive at the event will also be getting 2 for 1 bowling passes to McCurdy Bowl
