Alleged drunk driver flees crash scene

A 49-year-old Kelowna woman faces alcohol related driving charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident Friday evening.

RCMP say they were alerted to a hit and run on Springfield Road about 10:25 p.m. The woman indicated she had been rear-ended by a brown Chevy Cavalier and believed the driver was impaired.

"Police located the vehicle in the 1900 block of Parkinson Way and identified the driver to be a 49-year-old Kelowna woman," says Cst. Kris Clark.

"Investigators noticed symptoms of impairment and transported the woman to the detachment for further investigation. The woman refused to provide breath samples."

Clark adds police had dealt with the woman earlier in the evening on an unrelated matter. He wouldn't says what that matter was but indicated police were able to track her down based on that earlier incident.

The suspect faces potential charges of Impaired Driving and Fail or Refuse to Provide a Breath Sample.

She will appear in court April 28.
