Original story -- Jan. 30, 7:30 p.m.
Highway 97 was brought to a standstill Thursday evening near McCurdy Corner after a pedestrian was struck by a truck.
The accident happened at around 6:45 p.m., the driver of the truck was visibly shaken. RCMP say he was just at the end of his shift and almost at his destination when the accident occurred.
The pedestrian was taken away by ambulance.
“The pedestrian was on the shoulder of the road and he appeared to have just taken the opportunity, he was waiting for the truck I guess I don’t know, and he stepped right in front of it, faced the truck, and the truck driver didn’t have enough time to stop,” explained RCMP Cst. Bob Charron.
Other drivers and pedestrians ran to the man's aid; they did what they could until the ambulance crew arrived.
“He has a very serious head injury, you can tell from the amount of blood on the ground it would be considered life threatening injuries, to this point we don’t have his condition,” added Charron.
Emergency vehicles and accident reconstruction crews were still on the scene at 7:30 p.m.
Traffic is moving, Highway 97 has a single lane open southbound and two lanes open northbound.
RCMP say the driver is not being investigated for speed or alcohol.
We will have more details as they become available.
