Mother's Day Off shoots in Kelowna

Film crews from the US based Hallmark Channel will begin rolling into the Okanagan soon to film Kelowna's first location movie of 2014.

Filming will begin Jan 27 on 'Mother's Day Off', a Hallmark Channel Movie of the Week.

Okanagan Film Commissioner, Jon Summerland, says the Okanagan will double as Northern California in the film.

The movie stars Bonnie Sommerville (The Ugly Truth, Bedazzled, Without A Paddle) and James Tupper (Playing For Keeps, Mr. Popper's Penguins and Me and Orson Wells).

'Mother's Day Off' is described as a feel good film scheduled to air on Mother's Day.

It is the story of two college roommates who attend architecture school together and who meet after many years. One is a successful architect and the other is a mom. When they go for a Mother's Day retreat the mom comes back invigorated and teady to move back in the world of architectural planning.

"This is the first of many films coming to the region this year," says Summerland.

"It is gearing up to be a great year for the production business in the Okanagan.
