Slopestyle comp opens at Big White

Big White Ski Resort welcomes the BC Snowboard Association as they kick off 2014 with a double-header Slopestyle competition taking place January 4-5 in TELUS Park.

Over 50 competitors have signed up for the event so far, and registration is open all weekend long.

Competitors from Whistler, Kelowna, Winnipeg, Nanaimo and even China will compete in hopes of earning a top three spot to qualify for medals and prizing. Competitors may also earn FIS provincial series points and be identified by coaches for the Canada Winter Games, Provincial Teams and the BC Snowboard Team.

This is one of the largest Slopestyle courses in all of Canada. Three rail platforms and three jump features comprise the course and competitors are given points based on technicality and execution.

The awards ceremony will take place in the Village Centre Mall at 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Awards will be given to males and females in their respective categories, as well as age groups.
