Snowboard event series at Big White
On Saturday December 28 the BC Snowboard Association will host a CS Riders event series at Big White Ski Resort.
Riders is a national event series that combines snowboarding basics with fun competition. The event is geared towards snowboarders with less than three years of experience, or who are new to competitive boarding.
"This is a great nationwide grassroots program, developed to get young snowboarders in to their first coaching and contest," said Chris Smylski, of the BC Snowboard Association.
The Riders series introduces participants to competitive snowboarding through a skills course designed to challenge freestyle, snowboardcross and alpine skills. Participants will spend the morning practicing and developing skills on the course with CSCP trained coaches. In the afternoon, athletes compete in age categories for medals in a fun environment.
Local boarder Kevin Hill will serve as a guest coach. Kevin is on the National Snowboardcross team, and is currently ranked fifth in the world. He will be joined by members of the provincial team to assist with the coaching program.
“This is such a great program for young snowboarders to learn how to ride, to understand the basics of riding and have fun while doing it," said Maëlle Ricker, 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist in Women's Snowboardcross. "There are so many opportunities for young riders to grow within the sport, and hopefully down the road make it to the top of the Olympic podium.”
The entry fee for the event is $10. Registration takes place from 8-9 a.m. in the Village Centre Mall at Big White
