Treacherous roads send van into pole

A driver lost control of a minivan on Lakeshore Road Friday morning. The vehicle slipped off the road and down into a ditch where it slammed into a power pole. The force of the impact was enough to cut the pole in half.

“The road conditions are extremely treacherous, there is a lot of black ice on the road right now,” shares on the scene RCMP Cst. Ian Poschenrieder.

Two people were in the car at the time and are both OK. FortisBC crews are on the scene to turn off power and repair the pole.

“It looks like one vehicle was heading westbound on Lakeshore and went into a spin as it came around the corner striking a telephone pole and shearing it completely in half, leaving the other half suspended in mid air,” explains Poschenrieder.

Lakeshore Drive after Chute Lake Road is closed until further notice so crews can repair the pole.

Fortunately no one was injured in this crash. The van also came dangerously close to a home at 4850 Lakeshore Drive.

A detour is available by using Chute Lake Road.
