Catch of the day bigger than expected
There was a hunt for the big one this past weekend as fish hunters gathered to compete in a very unique tournament.
This one of a kind state of the art derby had 99 brave soles who put up with the wind and cold to try to get the longest fish. Once they hooked their catch, they measured the fish on the boat with approved rulers and then sent the info to the judges via a photo text message.
This was a catch and release Rainbow Trout Derby so it was measured in inches not pounds.
Once officials received the photo(s), a text and email was sent to all the participants notifying them of the updates.
It really is a state of the art Derby and the only of its sort in British Columbia,”says Derby Organizer Jason Tansem.
Gary Ellis took the top prize of $2,000 for hooking a 29 and 7/8 inch trout. Second (Kevin Kosma) and third (Ralph Winofsky) place fish were close behind at 28 and ½ inches and 21 and 7/8 inches long.
