Cora rebuilds after fire
The popular Cora Restaurant will be resurrected from the ashes in the spring of next year.
The restaurant was forced to close as a result of the fire which destroyed a portion of Burtch Plaza in November, 2012.
A majority of damage to the restaurant was in the roof and, at the time, owners Pam and Warren MacPhee decided to find a new location rather than rebuild in the Burtch Plaza.
Monday, they announced the restaurant will re-open next year in Orchard Park Shopping Centre.
"It is going to be great to see the Cora sun rise again," says Pam MacPhee.
"We have missed our team and guests and we're excited about our new location. The response we have received so far has been excellent."
The new location will be on the Springfield Road side of Orchard Park. It will have its own entrance next to the food court.
"We are very pleased to have Cora join the retail family at Orchard Park Shopping Centre. Cora's family values and commitment to quality food and service is consistent with our vision of excellence," says mall GM, Donna Markin.
MacPhee says the restaurant still plans to honour the Kelowna firefighters who "tried valiantly to save the original restaurant."
"Kelowna fire fighters and first responders are world class. Their efforts will not be forgotten and are deeply appreciated," says Warren MacPhee.
"We plan to honour them in a special way during our opening celebrations."
Construction on the new restaurant is expected to begin in January.
