Rallying the troops

New Democrat leader Adrian Dix took part in a community rally on Friday evening in support of FortisBC workers.

"This is an amazing show of support," said Rod Russell, Assistant Business Manager, IBEW local 213. "To send a message to the company and those locked out to know they're not alone."

Approximately 50 individuals rallied with IBEW local 213 union members, who have been on lock out for the past six months.

Most recently the union presented a package to FortisBC with four options, leaving the decision in their hands.

"I think it must be really difficult to have been out for so long," said Chris Clarkson, of the Okanagan College Faculty Association. "And the pressure on the individual and their families, especially around Christmas."

Union members have been without pay for the duration of their lock out.

Other speakers at the rally included: Irene Lanzinger, Secretary-Treasurer, BC Federation of Labour; Susan Bauhart, President, Central Okanagan Teachers’ Association; and Wendy Johnson, President, CUPE 3523.
