Charged with running over paper carrier

The man accused of running over a newspaper carrier after blowing through a police roadblock has a long history of run-ins with the RCMP.

In the past, Nathan Daniel Fahl, of Lake Country, has faced a charges such as theft over $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and he was wanted for a breach of probation.

Now Fahl, 24, is being charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, impaired driving, failure to stop at and accident, flight causing bodily harm, carry/use/threaten to use a weapon and operating a motor vehicle while disqualified, all stemming from the early morning incident last Friday that sent Steve Kania to hospital with serious injuries.

Fahl along with a 34-year-old Kamloops man and a 26-year-old Kelowna woman were taken into custody without incident. The Kamloops man and woman were later released.

Kania had to be transferred to Vancouver General Hospital for surgery and remains in an induced coma.

Steve's brother Richard went to Vancouver to be by Steve's side, as his brother undergoes the necessary surgeries.

Fahl remains in custody until a bail hearing on January 6, 2014.
