Garage fire quickly knocked down

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.

The Kelowna Fire Department says when they arrived on the scene there was smoke and flames coming from the single story residence on Eldorado Road.

The fire started in the garage and had spread to some cedar trees which in turn caused the siding of the neighbors garage to melt.

The KFD crew knocked the main fire down and at first reported that it had not spread to the house, however during a full overhaul of the fire a 'minor extension' or charring of the wood was found in the wall of the house.

The fire department is now investigating the cause but initial reports indicate the fire cause is electrical.

The family of four is being assisted by Emergency Social Services as some electrical and structural work will need to done before they will be able to move back in.

In total three Engines, one rescue truck, a command vehicle and a safety officer were on scene for a total of 16 Fire fighters.

Kelowna fire crews were able to quickly knock down a garage fire on Eldorado Road near Lakeshore Monday morning.

The call came in shortly before 11 a.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

Homeowner Haleh Khoshfekr says her family had been out shopping.

When they returned the carport was on fire.

A neighbour made the 911 call after seeing flames coming from the garage.

Khoshfekr says she believes the fire started from an electrical cord outside the home in the rear of the building.

Three firetrucks and about a dozen firefighters were called to the scene.
