Mission policing office on the move

The city's Community Policing Office which serves the Mission area will be relocating to the Regional District office on KLO Road once renovations to the available space are completed.
Council approved the move and corresponding five year lease Monday afternoon after learning the current office on Lakeshore Road is non functional.
"The services are provided out of a building that is costly to maintain and it does not have high speed data communication lines to allow police officers to use the various data bases required for their duties," stated Property Management Manager, Ron Forbes.
"Consequently, there are no permanent members working out of that office."
He says it would cost the city $180,000 to make the current office suitable.
Forbes says after reviewing lease rates proposed at the RDCO office and rates at other comparable spaces in the Okanagan Mission area is was determined the RDCO space would be the most suitable and cost effective.
"The proposed Regional District office space has been reviewed by the RCMP Community Police Coordinator, the city's Building Services Department staff and all agreed the space would suit their needs," says Forbes.
"The cost to renovate the space is estimated at $41,000 and an additional $40,000 for furniture. The rent would be $15.20 with triple net and an administrative fee of $5.58 per square foot."
That would work out to $57,352 per year.
Further, Forbes says the current Lakeshore Road Community Police site would be disposed of.
"The intent is to subdivide the property along the lines designated in the Official Community Plan," says Forbes.
"The north portion of the lands would be designated as park while the remaining section to the south would be disposed. Proceeds from the sale would be used to demolish the building and replenish the Water Utility."
