Grand Prix's final race day

A shift in tourism demographics, economic changes, and anticipated highway upgrades has forced the 30-year running Kelowna Grand Prix to shut its doors on Sunday.
After opening in 1983, the team at the Grand Prix says goodbye to the families and generations of families that they have been entertaining for decades.
“Lots of people are sad it is going and you know they reminisce about when they were here as a kid with their parents and wish it was staying here longer, but you know everything has its time,” says Darren Prowse, Co-owner and Manager of Kelowna Grand Prix.
He says the ownership was forced to close their doors as the business is no longer profitable.
“There are a number of reasons, some of it is economic conditions and some of it is the future of the highway and the lack of future accessibility to the property,” says Prowse.
Following the closure this week the doors will be open from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. all week for those interested in buying their no longer needed equipment.
“We are selling off the race cars, video games, kitchen equipment fixtures and stuff like that throughout the week,” says Prowse.
The public is welcome to come take a look around and make an offer if interested.
Prowse says he is not heartbroken over the closure saying it’s like spilt milk; and it’s just the way circumstances are.
Rain did put a damper on their final day in business and they were unable to run their formula one race cars; so as an added bonus, if the sun shines next weekend they will open one more time for people to get one last race around the track.
