Woman pleads guilty to arson charge stemming from intentionally set wildfires

Wildfire arsonist guilty plea

A Kamloops firebug who was arrested in connection with a string of intentionally set wildfires last year has pleaded guilty.

Angela Elise Cornish, 43, pleaded guilty in Kamloops provincial court on Thursday to one count of arson.

Cornish was arrested on May 11 and charged with four counts of arson. The Crown alleged she sparked wildfires in the Monte Lake and Lac Le Jeune areas in April and May.

She was released on bail about two weeks after her arrest.

The guilty plea was entered in relation to fires set on May 8 and May 11 in the Lac Le Jeune area.

Details of the offence are still protected by a court-ordered ban on publication. They will be made public once Cornish is sentenced.

Kamloops provincial court Judge Stella Frame ordered Cornish undergo a presentence assessment.

She is expected to return to court on March 9.
