One person is dead after medical event, gas station crash

Crash follows cardiac event

A crash at the Valleyview Shell on Saturday, March 28, was preceded by a medical event.

The driver of a vehicle had what was later to determined to be a cardiac event around 6:30 p.m., according to Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) Platoon Capt. Ken Hartt.

They then lost control of their vehicle, which hit a power pole (shearing it), a parked vehicle and the Shell gas station.

"KFR crews got the person out of the vehicle and started CPR," Hartt says. "And then BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) arrived on scene. Crews continued to work with BCAS to provide CPR."

"Despite the efforts of all on scene, the person was pronounced deceased."

No one else was injured in the incident.

Because the power pole was damaged, people in nearby businesses were given a shelter in place order while BC Hydro arrived to deal with it.
