Kamloops RCMP are warning local drivers to be smart and put their phones down while driving.
Last week, on Sept. 3 and 6, police issued 133 tickets to people caught using an electronic device behind the wheel. Another 102 tickets were issued for failing to use a seatbelt.
"These numbers are high," says Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. "Motorists need to put down their phone and buckle up. It's not just a matter of having to pay a fine if you're caught offending, it could be a matter of life and death."
