No shots fired in incident

UPDATE: 10:40 a.m.

Kamloops RCMP say no shots were fired in an early morning incident on the North Shore.

The investigation revealed there was no firearm involved. There had been an argument between a group of men, and "this may have been the precursor for the one report of shots being fired," police say.

Two men who were taken into custody have now been released.

Kamloops RCMP continue to investigate an early morning incident that sparked a heavy police presence and an area of the city being blocked off.

Staff Sgt Mat Van Laer says RCMP responded after receiving a report of two men with guns and shots fired in the Parkcrest Avenue and McLean Street area of Kamloops at 3 a.m. this morning.

Two males were seen running in and out of a residence with a rifle, and a caller indicated hearing one or two shots.

Officers set up a perimeter and blocked traffic to the area.

Initial investigation shows no evidence of anyone actually getting shot, but two males were taken into custody for questioning.

"With public and police safety in mind, we always treat those calls as legitimate and respond accordingly," said Van Laer, explaining why police with body armour and heavy weapons were seen in the neighbourhood.

RCMP say there is no threat to the public.
