One dead in Hwy 1 crash

UPDATE 6:42 p.m.

Highway 1 has not re-opened.

UPDATE 5:19 p.m.

RCMP are reporting one person is dead following an accident on Highway 1 near Kamloops.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. near Greenstone Mountain Road west of Kamloops.

“Upon arrival it was determined that a west-bound pickup truck with one occupant collided head-on with an east bound pickup truck with four occupants. The driver of the west bound truck died at the scene and the four occupants of the other truck were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” said Const. Mike Halskov.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and the highway remains closed in both directions while the investigation continues. 

Motorists are encouraged to monitor the DriveBC website for alternate routes and updates to the highway closure.

UPDATE: 2:27 p.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in both direction eight kilometres west of Kamloops following a head-on crash.

According to DriveBC, there is no estimated time for its reopening. 

Alternate routes are via Highway 5 and Highway 8.

Kamloops RCMP says five people have been injured.

Highway 1 outside of Kamloops is closed in both directions due to a head-on collision.

Kamloops RCMP report five people have been injured, however, the extent of those injuries is unknown. 

The highway will remain closed until at least 6 p.m.
